Recycling equipment

Specify preparation against an agreed receiving requirement.

Define the question.

Packaging waste can contain different polymers, labels, residual contents and non-plastic contamination. Sorting, size reduction and other preparation steps address particular material problems. Installing a shredder does not establish that a batch meets a pyrolysis operator’s feedstock specification.

Begin with the receiving plant’s written requirements and a representative characterization of the incoming stream. Record how samples are taken and which analytical method supports each result. Separate a plastic identification observation from a measured contaminant concentration; the two are not interchangeable.

The feedstock guide turns those requirements into a receiving and pretreatment record. It helps identify what each proposed step must remove, retain or change, and where another sample should be taken. It supplies no generic moisture, chlorine or particle-size threshold. Equipment selection must use the plant-specific limit, sampling basis and disposition for a failed load.

Work through the question

Use Packaging Waste Pretreatment and Pyrolysis Feedstock Checks to translate a receiving plant’s feedstock requirements into sampling, sorting and pretreatment checks for packaging waste.
